2.2 will not start
« on: 12 November 2012, 09:31:54 »

Hi all
Got in car this morning, tried to start and she fired up and died straight away.
Now the engine just turns over but will not fire. There are no codes stored,
and this is not something she has done before.

Please help

Just had another go and changed coil pack, for no reason other than I had a spare one.
No change.
However when turning over it does not sound right it sounds rather wheezy,
almost as if it had no compression.
Any ideas anyone?

Has it lost coolant? Got a compression tester?

No no coolant loss.
No compression tester.
However I,m starting to think its flooded. Alhough I thought that was a problem only for carb engines.
Went out tried again no luck. Then tried again with foot flat to the floor kept it turning and
it fired a few times and coughed, but didn,t quite go.
I have now had to put her on charge.
I have taken plugs out and they were black but not wet.
I have cleaned them and put back but now waiting for the battery to charge or the wife to come home
for a jump start.
Will let you know what happens.

Sounds like the same problem I had a while back and it was the chip inside the key.

I have tried it with both keys with out success.
So I find it hard to believe both keys are faulty.
Anyway just going to connect the battery and try again.

It could be the lamba sensor (the one on the front exhaust pipe from the engine if I remember correctly) as I had the same problem once with my old Senator 3.0.  It just would not start every so often until that sensor was changed.

Well connected the battery and after several atempts with lots of cranking with throttle flat to floor,it started firing
and just  when I thought the battery was about to give up it started.
I have taken it for a bit of thrashing, parked back on the drive and turned it off.
It restarted straight away.
I'm back at work tomorrow so hopefully it will be fine in the morning,
though I am concerned,as this is the only time in the four years we've had her that she's not started
first go, and not sure what caused the issue in the first place.
Cam sensor perhaps as someone (dbug) suggested?

Yup, Cam Sensor, on 4 pots they will start but take loads of cranking.

Cheap easy fix though.

But have you read the codes?

It should be about £25 (cam sensor)

That would be more like £80 for a "pukker" one. Pattern one will play you up
