Bought a set of Melco axle stands from machine Mart over the weekend and tried to change the oil yesterday but the cheap Hilki trolley jack I have doesn't lift the car high enough. Searched OOF last night for recommendations but those are out of my budget. My budget is max £50
Also bought a torque wrench, mainly for wheel bolts as I have been over tightening them slightly. Tightened the bolts to 110nm which didn't seem tight at all so increased the torque to 140nm but wrench clicked without getting the bolt any tighter. It's my first time using one of these so would like to know what I might be doing wrong.
What I do is to lift the car in stages.
On first lift the jack is on the floor and once raised to it's maximum I place an axle stand underneath, lowering the car onto that. Then I place the jack on a
solid piece of wood with other pieces underneath, and raise the car up once more and extend the axle stand to it's next highest pin height. If you need even more height, you just repeat the exercise until there using more
solid pieces of wood (pieces of railway sleeper are the best).
You obviously repeat the exercise at the same time on the other side of the car to ensure no movement omn the axle stands.
