am i correct in thinking that you are junking a perfectly good gearbox for the sake of a bush?
We're looking at replacing the bush (and, probably, the seal again) and the nose of the torque converter is shot. It seems the cost of the torque converter referb is probably the killer. I wonder if replacing the bush and retaining the gearbox plus sourcing a decent torque converter is an option.
Marie - do you know how the cost breaks down between the TC refurb and bush replacement? I can't see the bush being a terribly big job for someone who is used to working on these things. Surely just a matter of removing the bellhousing, drifting the bush out, pressing a new one in and reassembling with a new gasket.
With the number of dead AR25s around and the possibility of using a 2.5 TC that's got to be worth a thought - if we can suitably guarantee the TC is not contaminated?
When unlocked the TC does give a variable reduction in gear in rough proportion to the torque output of the engine so a 2.0 driving a TC designed for a 2.5 will not reach quite such a low ratio, hence why I say it might take the edge off the acceleration. Quite how noticeable this will be I can't say. Might even give better fuel consumption in exchange...
It certainly won't do any harm.
