Errr left Omega ownership ...
« on: 28 April 2008, 15:39:12 »

We mis judged the CDX facelifts MOT - turns out its expired !!!

So its booked into get tested tomorrow - thats another story as i expect a failure on brakes and brake pipes... ::)

Anyway wife has my MV6 and i am on train to and from work...

In a bid to avoid this i decided to go to the local auction on Friday and was, at seperate times, highest and winning bidder on two cars. Both bids were below reserve though so i returned empty handed.

So i really have my heart set on one of two models to replace the MV6 - wife will return to the facelift CDX when mot`d.

The MV6 door rust is annoying and it will need belts changed in December which co-incides with its MOT....

So the question is..

BMW 330 ci Circa 2001 or
Jag X Type 3.0 awd Sport circa 2003 ( and a few thousand extra spare)

Particularly intrested in opinions of anyone who has owned or driven either  :y

Do you like blown transfer boxes?

Do you like uncomfortable seats?

Do you like dash trim which pops up on its own accord?

The Jaguar Mondeo is not very good

My neighbour has got the 2.0 tractor variant. Can tell when he fires it up in the morning! Sounds a good bit less refined than the Massey Ferguson variety but not as good for ploughing.  ;D

What a choice...

BMW = Nice car but complete social outcast.

Jaguar X Type = Mondeo with posh frock.

Not looking at something more Swedish then? ;)
Much more interesting and torque steer sorts the men from the boys!  8-)

Not totally discounted what we have talked about - the problem being availability without needing to take a plane or two days off to pick one up.

Now if you do know of one Dave withing 150 miles of me..... :-X

if you are looking at the BMW do not go for one with the SMG/SSG gearbox......

A friend who has a garage has one down there currently, awful thing, has difficulty in selecting gears and is really clunky and jerky, i took it out once and it felt vary bad indeed.
According to the local BMW specialist the high milers are starting to go like this, that have tried new software, actuators, valves, replaced the oil and even changed the clutch slave cylinder at £550!!!!!!

I've seen the bills, I have dropped my boss off at Jaguar dealers enough while he has had it.

A spare cam sensor is a lot smaller than a spare transfer box

Markie what's your budget?

Guessing if you are looking at 03 plate x type fairly big.

Remember for 03 xtype money you could get 99/00 xj supercharged. Mpg only bit lower.

Some other thoughts from me are:

V8 mg zt
5.7 v8 monaro
Old shape bmw 5 series 540i (4.4 v8)

Both 540 and supercharged xj not affected by new tax rules.

Hmm, choice boils done to:

1) Want to be considered an utter idiot.
2) Want to be called Mondeo Man.
