Not much room in a 3 series after living with an Omega. Whatever you go for the economist in me says D.E.R.V.  Then you can go for a drive just for the sake of it and not feel like the office has lost your taxcode and put you on emergency coding.
IMHO BMW better engineered and dealer back up good, Jaguar just sounds better though, that's just the English part of me.

Oh dear, i'm dissapointed. However if you have few grand & want a change do'nt forget Audis. Totally understated (i've got a few quid but do'nt have to shout about it) but really producing some classy motors.
If you fancy a Jag why not a REAL XJ?. Not much room inside but still the best proper Jag & RWD. Like the look of newer Mercs but do'nt know much about them. I like Beemers but the newer ones look pig ugly.
They might be good motors but i get travel sickness just looking at 'em. To sum up it'd be a nice big Audi or the XJ for me. :D

Hmm, choice boils done to:

1) Want to be considered an utter idiot.
2) Want to be called Mondeo Man.

 ;D ;D

I knew it to be a bad idea asking non vx advice  ;D ;D However thanks eevryone for the advice anyway  ;)

I dont care what people call me, not bothered about petrol costs and dont use my car for the family runs as it is, so rear space not a concern  :)

Dont want to go below 3.0litre as i am used to it and dont see the need at this point to go too much higher...

Tunnie....Budget is pretty much whatever takes my fancy within reason but ideally 8k would secure the BMW mentioned in the opening or a little less will secure the newer Jag  ;)

BMW would be cheaper to run, less likely to break down.

Hi Markie. As stated on here before i'm no die hard vx fan, i just like Migs. On a lower budget (£2k for example) i'd have a Mondeo over a Vectra any day or a Fiesta over a Corsa, although the Astra wins over the Escort (FWD) all day but then i like the Focus so it's a mixed bag mate & a matter of opinion.
I agree with not caring about fuel costs, what's the point? So to sum up given your budget i'd go for the biggest Audi or Xj i could beat the salesman to a pulp on!!!
When you buy post some piccies, if you love it that's all that matters. :y Guy.

I found the X Type incredibly cramped (I'm 6ft) and more annoyingly the pedals are offset so you can't get comfortable in the seat.

I recently seriously considered parting with the Omega for an S type
2.7TDI Jaguar, Rwd & just under 40 mpg for the manual. But I came to my senses just in time, realising that the Jag couldn't do anything better than the car I already had.
The x type for me was a real no no.
Sometime in the (distant) future maybe......................

If I may add my two pence worth:

Everyman and his dog now drives a bmw, they have just become the new ford cortina.

Jaguar still manages to turn heads, if for nothing but it's rarity factor.

Both cars have image and reliability issues, but just to stand out from the crowd I would have to go with the Jaguar, and for me it would be an S type.
