I seem to remember that there is a fairly famous ski resort up near Lake Van, and I certainly remember a WintEx very near the USSR border  ...( Esfasan ) where the aircraft was desnowed and deiced on a very regular timescale ... every bloody morning at about 0430 ..

Siberian / Russian weather is the dominant weather force in the winter. In the Ukraine when the wind is from the south or west the weather is mild, with temperatures similar to the UK in January. when it is from the east (Russia) or the north (Siberia), then it gets very cold with up to -23degC at night (last winter exceptional and up to -36degC).

For this reason all traditional village houses in the Ukraine, have no windows and doors on the north wall.

In a typical winter in the Ukraine they will have a week or two of mild weather followed by a week or two of very cold weather. In November and March temperatures vary a lot from up +20degC to as low -15degC on a daily basis depending upon the wind / weather direction.

Mid to south Ukraine typically have better weather than the UK for 9 months of the year, with a 3 month cold winter. How does this compare to Turkey?
