ECU Light On
« on: 23 November 2012, 08:50:06 »

Hi Guys, one problem solved another pops up! As I pulled into the petrol station this morning, I felt the gear box give a little 'lurch' the ECU light then came on, and car went into limp home mode.

After doing the pedal trick I have the code 1700,

Also I have noticed the gear selected lights flicker in drive and park could this be related?

I'm not sure if this could be the cam sensor or gear selector switch?

Any help would be really welcomed! I was just starting to enjoy owning an Omega!

Regards
Ben

Give the selector switch a very thorough clean ...

Given the recent inclement weather it's possible you have dirt/moisture in the switch :)

Without sounding completly stupid, where abouts is the selector switch? is it an easy job to give it a clean?

Having only owned the car for 3 days its all still very new to me!

Just an update on this, just had the ECU fault code read as P0705 AT Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

Is this Range Sensor the Selector Switch? As my local garage and Vauxhall have never heard of the fault? ???

I have a feeling its going to get expensive!  :'(

It's very cheap & easy, as described above clean the selector switch.  :y

If the selector lights are flickering, even slightly, then clean the switch as per the link I gave.

If it does nothing else it removes the most likely cause from the equation, and will probably sort the problem and save you the Stealers costs ..  :)

Hi everyone, just another update on this one : stripped out the selector switch, cleaned and replaced, and the ECU light went out :y

Only now I have another issue: in P R N and D everything works as it should, no issues and the car drives perfect, when I change down to 3 2 and 1 I get all the selector lights on? Not a major issue as I only use the top 4 but I wondered if this is going to cause me any issues in the future?

That's what I thought Rob, but it was a right pig of a job to get on and off, and I don't really fancy trying again! It was a lot more luck than judgement doing it the first time!

Will the incorrect switch cause any major issues? As all the gears I use work fine?
