Also need to look at getting SWMBO a new lappy as her screen has packed up... I think it might be graphics driver overheating as it kind of hisses and flashes up for a second or 2 before going off

Perhaps lease 2 PC's for not dissimilar prices to the Macbook Air

Discrete graphics on laptops does tend to cause reliability issues.  Most 2nd and 3rd gen i3/i5 have enough graphics power (video is integrated on cpu, not chipset) for most non games.

Given the cost and lack of compatibility, unless you have a specific need for a Mac...

Looking at leasing deals, actually they're Lease/Purchase deals, (better for the business needs/finances) there's not a huge difference between PC/Mac. In fact, the PC's look quite over priced in comparison

Should add... Acer weren't so much the chosen brand as the right price at the time and they've now done at least 4 years so not too shabby

If looking at business grade laptops, they will be pricey, due to robustness and managebility - you don't get much of that with Macbooks.

Personally would go for Windox lappys - bigger software base.

As for "dodgy" screens on lappys, 99 times out of 100, fault caused by "dodgy" wires/connection caused by opening/closing lid - worth checking and repairing (you ok with a soldering iron?)   Just need to pop screen out and have a look

Yep... Mine is screen wires and should be fixable. Hers is definitely more serious
