ATF change on the Jaag!
« on: 12 December 2012, 13:11:54 »

Hi Guys,

I want to change my ATF on the Jag.

I thought I got lucky when I saw the drain plug on the sump ;D But I can't find a filler anywhere  ::)

Anyone know about these things? I must say, the Jag forum's are not a patch on this one :y

Yep!

Jag forum's say it's "sealed for life"

More like.. "sealed until life is over (due to lack of ATF servicing!)"

I was kinda hoping I could drain, and refill via dipstick tube... no such luck!

Mine has a dipstick which comes out in to the engine bay by the rocker cover.

That's why I got an AJ16 as old as I could find.  Once Ford got their hands on the XJ they f***ed it up

Mine is a 2001 3.0 V6, and that's a ford in disguise ;D

The block itself is ford, though many of the ancils etc are Jag specific.

Thankfully rear wheel drive, though :y

The Ford Jags are money pits.

If you are unlucky enough to have one with a Ford Autobox, sell it before the "Gearbox Fault" comes up on instrument panel. Be quick!

sorry guys, but X300 was the first Ford Jaguar

Is yours a six-cylinder XJR Guffer ? in that case, it will have a GM autobox. (4L80E - the big brother to the Omega's 4L30E )

Any XJ  from[I think]1997 onwards, that is with a V engine as opposed to the straight six has a "sealed for life"gearbox. The ATF change can be done but is more of a specialist job as the new fluid has to be put in under certain temperature conditions as well as anything else.I believe this costs quite a lot even at a Jaguar Independant place.Jaguar warranties[if applicable]will be voided by having the ATF changed, but the JEC recommend that is done. This is one of the reasons I opted for my old faithful straight six X300.
