Depending on the make, the posh detachable towbar key can look like this.  :y

or more commonly the key to remove towbars looks like this.  ;) ;) ;D

They are made by Westfalia I believe.

Keys for detachable tow bars
I lost the key for my detachable tow bar. What can I do?

You should always note the number of the key when you receive your automatically detachable tow bar. This number is stamped into the head of the key. With this key number, you can have your garage request a new key from us at any time. If you did not note your key number, have your garage or automobile dealer request a universal key set from us. This contains all of the available keys. After receiving the key set, try out the keys until you find the key that fits and send us back the entire set. You can order the required key or keys through your dealer by providing the number of the key.

Well just had a good look and took some photos.  Mine doesn't look like the one in the manual and the boilerplate says it is made by 'Brink'.  Heres a google docs link to the picture https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2aS7COqiXBgcHBBQkxSamk4Yk0  A rubber cover normally covers the chrome part you can see. There seems to be no key hole maybe the barrel has been removed.

I think Google docs make it difficult to see pics if you're not registered so here's one hosted by Google blogger

At lot of googling has found me the fitting instructions for mine http://www.fittinginstructions.co.uk/Brinknew/333100.pdf.  Not very useful for what I want (just to remove the removable bit) but may be useful for someone. I assume I have to push in the chrome bit and turn it which will drop some pin inside the detachable part and it can then be pulled out.
