Looking to buy a nearly new Galaxy
« on: 17 December 2012, 22:09:13 »

For the family outings. Currently have an Alhambra. Was looking at the new shape Alhambras but the one with all the goodies on it like our current model is out of our price range. However we can get a 2010/11 Galaxy Titanium X within our budget. The Galaxy and Alhambra were always the same car but when the Galaxy was updated that seemed to change. So does anybody have any feed back on the latest Galaxy? any common problems?

How strange. it's a corker in the Alhambra. Was kinda hoping Seat and ford still shared the same engine

As most galaxies are over 12 Billion years old ..  a "nearly new" one might be a tad hard to find ..
perhaps this one might suit ??

I've had both 1.9 and 2.0 lt Alhambras. Also had a 140 Passat DSG. You can't really get round DPF's these days. Even my 1.6 Tdi has one. They are even injecting stuff in the exhaust these days to get cars through the tests. Something called adblue. DPF's are alright as long as you use them right.

I think the tie up between Ford and VAG ended about 5 years ago. So the Galaxy will will now be quite different.
Alhambra was ok with the 1.9. after that not so good to be polite.

If buying auto be very careful. Dad has had 2 autos and both failed at between 60 and 80k miles.

Was a passenger in new shape ish 08 I think? Few months ago, was very impressed with the ride. Very smooth, for a derv too very little engine noise. Went ok for us, with 5 up.

Ours was a taxi, so heavily used. Yet no trim was rattling, everything felt solid.

Overall very impressive :)

The new Galaxy's are nice cars, feel quality, comfortable, and drive quite well too, I'd recommend the 163 BHP version though, it's far better.

They are decent motors to fair. I've driven a few as I used to work at a dealer. No major problems with them, do recall a problem with electric windows not going up properly, but that was a few years ago and it was a warranty repair anyway. They've come a long way since the 1.9 diesel, and the new 2.0 diesel is much better than the old one. If you do get one, dont shut the doors with the key in the ignition - after a few minutes it'll lock itself. And as with all Fords these days double lock it if you dont want a flat battery!!  Single lock doesnt power down the modules.

Cheers for that info. The trim level we're looking at has the push start button. No key
