Ended up insuring mine with Adrian Flux for £1200 :y insured on Registration number as a 3.2 Elite Auto. They are aware it's a manual, and will cover modified/lpg 8)

Trying to get quotes was a total mare, basically insurance firms were using the fact that the reg didn't produce a vehicle in their (limited) lists as an excuse not to quote >:( so I did some shopping around and went for the policy I did on recommendation from a couple of people here :y Did get a few quotes below £1000, but the average excess was nearly £750 :o

Insuring two of them will cost me over £2500 :'( which is king annoying as I have 4years untransferable NCD on a taxi policy, which is due for renewal in a couple of weeks. The daft thing is I am expecting the renewal quote to be about £2300 including the NCD, which puts it into perspective :-\

May continue to insure one as a taxi just in case :-\ at least then I can claim the premiums back ::)

How do people on here insure a 3.2 v6 special? ??? when i look on websites it obviously only lists the 3.2 mv6's [all auto],

Cheers AL

Ring them, and depending on the company, either hang up in frustration, or explain it's a V6 Special, or Special V6, or GLS V6, or any one of two dozen other alternatives. I pay £50 more for the privilege but then at least I know it's insured properly.

There was the wonderful lady trying to quote me happy who was convinced I must in fact own a Vectra. And presumably a very strong glasses prescription.

Got a 3.2 Manual Special that thinks its a Vectra on the Insurance Data, most of the time they are listed on the Data Base as Omega Specials, another thing to check is its not Data Base as Armoured as that really pushes the cost up.

That must have been even more frustrating than my conversation "no, I promise you, it's 15% bigger in every direction and definitely says Omega on the boot". She'd looked at mine being a 3.2 manual Vauxhall and that was all she had.

Is there any way of finding out wether a car has any extra under body protection  as you are describing, as I have an ex DPG car and have never given any thought to the subject. I guess someone like Josh Wyatt may know :o

Nice result there! :y :y :y

The only question is if she has a new engine and gearbox, with only 57k on the clock for her entire life (? or since new engine?) why does the clutch need replacing already? ??? ???

WPC driver ? :D ;D ;D

Would have thought any armouring would be fairly obvious once carpets/door trims etc were out of the way :-\

Think you're right Al,I've had all three interiors right out including carpets and the two ex cop cars don't seem to be any different to the civvy car,and I would have thought like you it would have been obvious if there had been any mods, just was'nt sure wether they would have been internal or external :-\

If I were to armour one then I would put kevlar sheeting inside all the panels, and along the firewalls and footwells. I would probably cover the underside with a nice thick stainless sheet with pans covering the drive train and fuel tank. A suitable layer of film inside impact resistant glass would finish it off along with runflat tyres. Suspension would require work as would brakes/steering and drivetrain to allow for the extra weight...

Wouldn't want the fuel bill though ;D

If your referring to your RED ex Met DPG then No, not armoured, your Car would have been DPG and SO6 in Central London, they were Armed Police Escorts for HM, Government Heads and High Risk Diplomats as well as being On Call for Critical Incidents and Armed Respnse.

The Armoured Migs would have been the unmarked ones carrying the VIPs themselves, well in London anyway.

Since the Omega's the Armed DPG/SO6 now use BMWs, prior to MIgs they used Sierra 4x4's all in the Fire Engine Red.

Thanks Chris for clearing up the query,it only crossed my mind when the subject came up as the DPG being a specialised service thought they may have had a bit of extra protection on their cars as well. :y
