Omega 2.2 starting issues
« on: 28 December 2012, 12:01:11 »

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so please bear with me!!

I'm looking for a bit of advice, I have a 2003 Omega 2.2 CD (petrol). On start up it can be absolutely fine drives
without fault, other times it seems to struggle but does eventually start and shows the management light
(the small car with a spanner!!).

The car never goes into limp mode, doesn't stall or backfire when this happens. Most of the time I can turn it off
and start it again and it clears the light.

It has been happening more frequently and on xmas eve the light stayed on, I got the AA out and they read 3
codes which were as follows

P0700+ transmission control system
P0727  engine speed input no signal.
P1781+ manufacturer specific

I'm guessing at either crankshaft sensor or cam sensor but any advise on the fault and the cost to repair would
 be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Tim

hi, iv'e got the 2.2 petrol and have had the cranksensor changed, but your symptoms are different to mine, as mine would stall and not start again for about three minutes. would suggest that you talk with one of the mobile guys on here to get the codes read by tech 2. good luck and have fun !

the worst of my engine problems were cured by resetting/clearing the codes, as changing the sensor didn't cure it ! off the top of my head i belive that one of our mobile guys is reasonably close to you, it may pay to get a second opinion on your fault codes.

You could be right, the codes were straight from the AA!!!!!

Any ideas where your mobile guys contact details are?

Cam sensor - make sure you replace it with one bought from a dealer, i.e. a genuine one, else you will be wasting your money.

I would get the codes read properly and then post up on here to be better advised , but fav code would be crank position sensor. 2.2 engine does suffer from cam sensor probs but crank sensor will do it as well.

2.2's don't suffer from starting problems with the crank sensor, like the 6 pots do.

Symptoms are defo cam sensor.

interesting reply from the op, having had the codes read prior to changing the crank sensor, my ecu had crank sensor fault codes stored rather than cam sensor codes. wondering whether if my problems were cam related that would show as crank, also would the problems be resolved after changing the crank sensor and clearing the fault codes ? also why should clearing the codes some time after changing the sensor resolve the stalling ?

Stalling is a different symptom to starting.

Crank sensors are bullet proof on 2.2, as above, symptoms are clearly cam sensor  :y

Tunnie,

I'm taking a guess with the smilie on your post that the cam sensor is the easiest and possibly the cheapest to change!!!!

Im gonna get it down to the garage and ask them to change the cam sensor but ask for them to supply a genuine Vauxhall part. Hopefully that should solve it
