Anyone driven to Europe recently?
« on: 29 December 2012, 09:27:25 »

Keep seeing those breathalysers in Halfords, £5.99 for 2. That said not sure if trade card gets a discount, but was wondering how much they are on the ferry?  :-\

I'm not spending much time on road in France, but want to be legal as soon as I drive off the boat.

I didn't need them, as I went just before it came in on 1st July.

Its £5.99, why take a risk on the hope is 3p cheaper on the ferry. Bloody student mentality ;D

We go to see jolly foringer on a regular basis, the breathalyser law in france has been shelved untill September 2013,BUT some gendarmerie will try to enforce it for the cash,.
. We have in our trucks a complete euro kit in a small zippey bag, contains first aid kit,bulbs,triangle,hi-viz and fire extinguisher and 2 breathalyser..
. They are available on ebay
. We get stopped more by customs than gendarmes.
Always found being polite and civil, and speaking ones best school boy french helps, and offering to buy a coffee. ;)

Just buy them and you have it already... Even at full price it's £6 FFS, that's less than 2 pints or a take away ::) ::)

The French Traffic Police are often to be found hanging around by the first motorway toll booths on the A26 out of Calais.  They like to pick on the British registered cars as it's easy pickings!!  >:(

If you do that it will avoid the Austrian roads too ;)

Anyway... For where you're going I'd go Dover-Dunkirk and then through Belgium ;)
