Some simple facebook questions.
« on: 30 December 2012, 17:52:17 »

I have resisted the need to have Facebook. but my nephews use it rather than Email and so I am considering joining in order to keep in touch.

Ideally I would like to have a user name (if that is the correct term) that is anomanous e.g. Senor Varche (but not that now!).

Is that possible? Also do you have to give personal info (that is displayed) when you register. i.e. your real name, phone number and so on. ?

In a nutshell, I want only the bare minimum of a facebook Id. I certainly don't want to be bombarded with even more junk mail, junk calls, spam.

Any tips would be appreciated.

(The Boy - stop reading this right now!)

My tip to anyone over 30 years of age is give it a miss! ;D ;D ;)

When you register you give out your e-mail address and other info personal to you.  Then you post on the site exposing all that you put out to millions / billions around the globe.

If you like the idea of sharing gifts and thoughts, personal info., with teeny boppers, university clever dicks, or simply those who love to cause mayhem for people who are naive and believe they can trust everyone in the world, then go on the site.

On the other hand when you make the mistake of being on Fb then you realise how childish and boring for mature people it is.

If you want to communicate with people on line just use standard e-mails, or otherwise go to the local pub / bar / cafe and have fun with your mates talking to them direct!

Just my opinion of course, but that is what I found with Fb.

What's wrong with OOF anyway? ??? ??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Parties of drunken yoofs will turn up at your door looking to drink all of your beer and shag all of your females.

you can call yourself anything on it,if you have a spare email address you can use that or get yourself a new one!! as stated set your security settings to what you want its pretty good,
we even have a page for buster the dog!! lol i dont get pages and pages of stupid posts as i only allow my chosen friends to see my page and vice versa, it is very good when you learn your way round it, most annoying thing is the adverts down the side and facebook telling you,do you know this person!! resisted for years but now keep in contact with my brother and sisters all over the world, :y

Imo the best method of keeping in touch with far flung family & friends is Skype, assuming you have a webcam. You can see each other and have a chat, which is great if you have family in other countries etc.

I agree, Skype is great. Spoke to my Mum and dad this p.m. for an hour but the quality was rubbish. My useless 02 , 3G provider has deteriorated over Xmas - no doubt added more users. Ping 545! Down0.10 Up 0.12. Not bad for £38 a month. 3rd world country. I need to save up and get satellite Internet.

Thanks for the pointers. I like the idea of an account in the name of our dog,  Pero Varche (damn quite use that either now!)  :y

Never had a problem with Facebook.

I only share the information I WANT to share with people who I WANT to see it.

I never receive e-mail from Facebook (it's turned off in the settings).

The only people who have problems with Facebook are people who don't have the common sense to use the Internet.

My name is Ross - I am from Bristol and I drive a BMW......... I hope you all don't come and kill me now *boo hoo* :)
