How to check control arm bushings?
« on: 31 December 2012, 01:43:46 »

I moved wheels side to side, there was no movement. Does that mean bushings are OK?
I tried to check bushing by pry bar and control arm moved. I guess, it should move, bushing is rubber.
How do you check bushings?

Fronts, lever with a bar, and with a torch examine the inner rubber for splits. You have to look really closely and carefully behind the plastic insert.

Rears, jack up and with suspension fully extended and the wishbones forced down look for areas where the rubber has pulled away from the outside edge. If the rubber sits flat in any way while the wishbone is angled down, bush fubar.

Any doubts, post a pic.
