replacement headlamp units
« on: 31 December 2012, 18:51:06 »

Hi all, is there a difference in lamp units for regular bulbs and hid bulbs, my car has the hid's but the lamps have yellowed from the inside, found units for sale but it dosent say weather there for regular or hid.

Thanks in advance

Needs the correct fittings in the lights as the bulbs are different.
Choices are GM oe or depo pattern, or used.

Unless you want to get into refurbing.

When you collect them check the adjusters before buying as you dont know how they have been handled by the suppliers to the parts store.

Give them a gentle shake. If the adjusters are broken you will hear the remains rattling around inside. :y

Open the back up, and gently prod the lower edge of the lamp carrier with your finger. There will be some play, but basically if it moves easily the adjusters are shot :y

If you pop one of your headlights out you'll see what I mean. IIRC, there's a guide about headlight adjusters in the Maintenance Section :y

is it your headlamp lenses that have yellowed or your headlamp bulbs? the bulbs can go off colour after a few years so just buy a new set if this is the case. mine done that, started up with the big flash, dimmed, then came up through the colour warm up sequence but after they were nice and white, carried on to dull down. the O/S one was like a orange street light. New bulbs sorted it
