01 2.2 power
« on: 01 January 2013, 15:46:47 »

i know ye probly get this alot but i need more power (torque) out of my omega. you will prob just tell me buy a v6 but the thing is first of there very hard to find over here and second my tax is already euro286 so cant afford to tax anything bigger.. is there anything i can do?? change cams? manifolds? even gearbox or anything. its a street drifter so still needs to be drivable but dont care about petrol, its already an animal on it and ive had skylines and silvias before it so well used to putting my hand in my pocket at the pumps

Not a lot you can do on these really, what you see is what you get.

Very little gains for the money IMHO, already has a Cold Feed if standard.

Suppose you could always throw a Red Top Turbo Lump in it if you not up for a V6.

144 bhp is not a small power.. problem is the weight of miggy..

either you decrease the weight or increase the power.. and power comes at a cost..

Pretty much nothing you can do with that lump. A bloody good service will bring back some of the lost power, but with it being a (almost) unique engine to the Omega, and Omega's are easily spruced up by getting v6 variants, there isn't much out there.

I don't think there are many gains to be had anyway. Exhaust is reasonably free flowing. Engine Mangement will probably be upset with no cat. The cold air inlet, and the GM air filter is designed, and not limiting to, 3.2 V6, so you're not seeing any gains there.  Forced induction maybe, but I think you'd be better off replacing the engine.

If you need to keep it 4 pot, then dropping in a more tuneable 4 pot would be the only route I'd consider. Saab turbo or C20XE / LET? Not saying that the current lump can't be tuned, but it isn't done much, so you'd be a trailblazer, and that's always expensive. Better to find an engine where someone has already made the expensive mistakes and what works and what doesn't is common knowledge.

Bear in mind, though, that a tuned 4 pot giving significantly more power will either be a screamer with little torque at low revs or forced induction with significant lag. I'm guessing neither will be ideal in your application, whereas a V6 will be spot on.

so it really is heading down the line of needing a v6. never had one are they as good as some people on here say they are or is it that they just love them no matter what they can do??? are they a simple change over are mounts the same etc? what else is involved  engine loom ecu fuel pump? exhaust?? will the same rad do? will the dash clocks still work does it need another gearbox?? is it really worth it or would i be better off just buying somethig 2ltr turbo like another skyline???
i dont mind doing all the work as im an apprentice mechanic but is it a real pain in the ass

Get yourself a 3.2 and turn the TC off and you will spin the wheels to your hearts content especially if you can find a MV6 ex-police with a limited slip diff
