My girlie won't sleep
« on: 05 January 2013, 08:26:45 »

Hi all, my 2.5yrs old daughter doesn't want to sleep after dining as she really enjoys the life and finds it much more interesting than the sleep. Wifey and me been trying a lot of tricks day by day unfortunately till now unsuccessfuly. Antonia is looking forward the mornings and after waking up she run to play - she loves her own builder toys - and when arriving dining sleep we can not to smuggle her into the bed...then she sleeps about 9-10 hrs per day, which is not enough by our guess. If you have any idea or experience please share on here. thx    Laszlo

Is her bedroom a snug, girlie type of space for her?

I would ensure that her room is a great warm area for her, with her favourite toys and a decor to suit a 2.5 year old girl's likes, which no doubt you have recognised already as her personality is starting to really show!  If her bedroom is a space she wants to occupy, and especially her bed is just right for her, she can subtly be encouraged to go into that area at a set time each evening.  A cuddle with you or your wife whilst she lays down in her bed and soft conversation about items in her room; dolls, dolls house, teddy bears, etc will lull her into a feeling of wanting to be in "her" room and going to sleep should become a regular pattern.  You have then set the rules for sleep at night, with a regular time, comforting decor and bed, amongst her favourite things.  She should then settle well into that routine as a matter of habit.  It does not happen overnight, but a 2.5 year old should quickly succumb!  ;)

Hope that helps! :y :y

Try some music playing in the background in her bedroom, something soothing not pop ;)
Also try to make sure she doesn't nap in the day as well  :y

Many experts recommend that get her slept after having lunch, too cos she needs have 11-12 hrs rest every day. We can't get her had so long rest as she is so impulsive and energic that impossible to persuade hence we are really puzzled in the question.  Thanks for answers though  :)

Tbh, kids get to a certain age then the sleep pattern changes.

My lad used to have a sleep every afternoon until he was around 3 years old then we had the same problem.

We started keeping him awake and putting him to bed about 6:30pm after his tea.

Yes, he was a pain in the arse until he got used to it but at the end of the day, if he ain't tired, he won't sleep  ;)

Right Laszio! :y :y

Going back to what I originally stated try and persuade her to sleep in her bedroom as long as possible at set times.  That will start to regulate the sleep pattern during the day.  I would also add with your clarification of your problem, I would not worry too much about the amount of sleep during the day.  All my children had different sleep patterns, and that is natural to their own character.  No two children are the same!

If you establish a good night time sleep pattern, then you can do no more and I personally would stop worrying about it.  She will fall into her own routine as she grows up, so let nature take it's course and all should be well.  Do not try to force her to sleep though as that will result in it's own problems for you, with her building up a resistance to your attempts!  Everything must be done gently with a child of that age.

Hope that all helps :y :y

Don't worry about it, all kids are different, if she's healthy and happy then everything is fine. Ignore the so called experts who probably never had any children in the first place, just wrote a book :) :) :y

Well Lazlo I think your english has reached it's pinnacle now you can really lightheartedly "give it" to someone like that - well done

on subject - would go along with Lizzie, people sleep when tired all our 4 kids have been like that. We sent them to bed at a set time and they where asleep when we checked on them. Job Done

My 2.5 year old girl has the same problem, she has now stopped sleeping during the day and will go to bed of her own accord at night when she is tired. This can be anytime between 10pm and midnight! If she goes to bed at 10pm she gets up at about 6am and if it is not until midnight then she will get up at about 8am. Different children need different amounts of sleep.

She is a very happy, jovial child. The complete reverse of my grown up daughter who was a miserable child.

Natalie is mad on drawing and painting and very good for her age. Ask her to paint a car and she draws round wheels and the outline of a car's body. Where one of her little jobs is feeding the chickens, she also loves drawing and painting them! She knows all her colours, so when told to we will use the red paint next etc. she picks out the right colour. She also knows most of the 33 letters of the Ukrainian alphabet and when asked can draw or paint them. She also takes after both mum and dad, where she loves looking through books, we are both avid readers. My wife where she is a primary school teacher and teaches small infants is very good at making learning interesting and fun for Natalie with a wide range of activities. From pastry cooking, to running around kicking or throwing balloons.

The amount of energy and running about they have at this age is amazing. She is also like all 2 to 3 year olds going through the tantrum 2's where she makes her displeasure well known as soon as things aren't going how she wants them, especially when pushing the boundaries of behaviour. But around 3 they grow out of the tantrums.

You reckon! ::) ::)  Just wait until your girl starts to become a teenager.  Then you will know what tantrums really are ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
