step motor 2.0 16V
« on: 09 January 2013, 11:12:40 »

Hello knowledgeable people!

I have a question about a step motor on Idle control valve on an 2.0 16V ecotec engine. Is that thing an electro-magnetic or just a plain electric motor? Has anyone ever peeked inside of it?

Its a solenoid, not a motor

So, it still has a chance of working since it isn't showing any resistance on voltmeter... ?

Apply 12V, if it moves, the solenoid is working.

More likely problem is with the air passages inside the valve section. See: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90586.0 (Reply #2).

No, being a solenoid it should have a measurable resistance of probably around 10 ohms

I was about to do so but was waiting for an input from you great minds.  :y

No, being a solenoid it should have a measurable resistance of probably around 10 ohms

I'll check for that again but the first time I did that it showed nothing, the needle on the meter didn't move at all.
I have already prepared my wallet for a new idle valve since my car doesn't have an idle at all. I just hope the local scrapyards will be gentle since they are so thirsty for money even for parts for such an old car like mine.

Oh well, I know you people must be tired of replying to ''idle problems'' questions around the forum so I hope I wasn't bothering you too much.

Thanks everyone, you're the best.

You wouldn't believe but I am only in the beginning of the process of bringing this purple beauty back on its tyres...
