I have read the guide and am about to undertake the repair ... my question is the rounded ends of the repair plate ...

Is the shappe of the plate required, the same size as the outer skin hole it has to go through if you see what I mean

By that I mean there is an outer layer that apearrs to be the same shape ias the reprofiled plate

I am tring to avoid taking the door off and cannot quite get to see the damaged area so if the outer skin "hole " is the same sive that would make things much easier

Does anyone know?

I'm not really sure what you mean. But the plate that goes on the inside of the door goes on a you buy it ie full size. The other is cut just enough to fit it into the hole at the front edge of the door where the check strap emerges from the door. You don't need to remove the door.

I think I just chopped 1/4" off top & bottom  It was a while ago now.

I've fitted 4 sets of these repair plates so far and I haven't had to cut anything off or reshape any of them. They are fiddly but do go.

You need as much area as possible on the inside repair plate, as it is that which has to bridge any damage on the panel inside the door, to give it strength. You need to offer it up from inside the door, so door card and polythene seal off.

Luckily I have the larger repair panel for the inside



Part number on it if anyone needs it ... what with that and the carefully trimmed plate for the outside , hopefully all shoulf be well ...I HopE!

Yes, sorry. Was about to say that the outer one can be a challenge to get in unless the corners are rounded off. Got sidetracked half way through the post.

It's too involved using that repair panel. Just use the small rectangular plates & sandwich what's left of the front of the door between the two. The front edge of my door had ripped right through, but has managed with the two plates fpor years.
