Yes, I think I have seen that before.

It was when the USA tested a hydrogen bomb on the Bikini Atol after a previous Russian test had pushed up the mega tonnes that was meant to be 57 but produced 100+, the Worlds largest explosion.  If I remember correctly the American bomb in 'retaliation' was meant to produce XX mega-tonne worth, but instead pushed out a third more mega-tonne and almost wiped out the test team and others.

America gave up on those tests after that!

That programme is worth watching Tigers-gonalds :y :y :y

Wrong way round liz  ;D

A bit of a cockup on the secondary stage.
5 meg became 15 meg and sucked up alot of fallout up into the sky  :(

The russian "Tsar bomb" was actualy a "detuned version" only kicking out about 50 meg.
Khrushchev wanted the full fat 100 meg 3 stage version but was thankfully talked out of it  :o

Got to admit I love to watch this stuff.

Infact I used to "play" with the systems that controlled smaller versions that we had in my youth  ;)

I thought my memory had let me down (again!!):-[ :-[ :-[  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That is one hell of a documentary you are watching, and I know certainly shows how lucky we were to live through the Cold War.  If those maniacs had had there way we would be dead now!! :o :o :o :o :o

No wonder my Royal Navy father said at the time "It was better to be Red than dead"! :-X :-X

That is useful information Entwood :y :y

I once visited the Atomic Research Museum on an USAF base in Albuquerque in New Mexico with our retired USAF Major friends.  It was fascinating and scary at the same time, being able to touch the cases of real, but obviously disarmed, atomic bombs that were the 'spares' of the American test programme! :o :o :o

It also reminded me of the time I was with my RN father in the RAF control tower at Luqa Airport, Malta G.C. in 1964, when a Vulcan bomber had to make an emergency landing with, so I was told at the time, a hydrogen bomb "causing problems" in it's bomb bay!  It was all exciting and scary stuff! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :)
