Crackle under dash
« on: 12 January 2013, 21:24:15 »

Hi there!

I've recently followed in my fathers footsteps and bought a 3.2 Elite. It's a 2001 model with 102k on the clock - but it'll only get driven on the weekends.

When the ignition is switched off there's this strange crackle-whir-click-buzz type noise from under the steering column. Anyone have any idea what that is, and whether I can make it go away?

Thanks!

T.

You sure it`s not the CC servos going through their motions

What's a CC servo? Climate Control? It's quite loud and my dad's Elite doesn't do it.

To clarify: When I drive somewhere, park and switch off the engine, that's when it happens. Even if the CC has been off the whole journey.

.......and mine from time to time, with the sound coming from the centre vents, not under the steering column.  It always reminds me of a clock resetting itself, which of course is what the electronic device is doing! ;)

I have always assumed that it was the sound of the flaps in the climate control slowly (and creakily) closing as the vacuum leaks away in the climate control system. My last car didn't hold a vacuum for long after the engine was switched off and it always made the noises.

My current car holds the vacuum for much longer and the noises are less apparent.
