mv6 cruise control
« on: 13 January 2013, 01:08:31 »

I recently changed my omega from a 2.5 cdx to a mv6. However I was surprised to find the mv6 lacked a cruise control. No problem I thought and removed the switch stalk and control box under the bonnet from the cdx and fitted it to the mv6. It doesn't work unfortunately. Anyone know if I've missed a fuse, relay or is it an ecu thing?  Also the steering on the new car is heavier than the cdx. Is that normal?

I'd imagine it'll be a different brake light switch between the two. A two pin originally on the MV6 & a four pin on the CDX. Try swapping them.

Does the assistance of the MV6's power steering alter dependant on speed?  :-\ It could just be a fuse .........  :-\

As you have taken the bits from a 2.5  I  am presuming you have a 2.5 or 3.0 MV6 & not a DBW  2.6 /3.2

Not even sure if there was a 2.5 MV6  :-\ :-\ :-\

If you type "Fitting cruise to pre facelift" in the search box there is a detailed explanation of how to do it & what you need done by Hotel21  from Dec 2006 .

If you have DBW  2.6 /3.2 there is a feature in the maintenance guide under fitting cruise  to  DBW  cars . (Really easy, but does need Tech 2 enablement that one  )

Sorry I can't link you direct ,  useless on a PC :-[ :-[ :-[

But HTH :y

Ah now thats interesting. it does have a 2 pin brake light switch and the cdx has the 4 pin. I can change them over but I can't see the mv6 has more than 2 cables. Yes it is a 3.0 mv6 1999 and I'll check the link.
As for the steering, a fuse issue indicates it's a speed sensitive system so I'll pay attention when I'm out next.
I do like these cars (on my 3rd) but they are annoying at times.

Well now I'm more confused and annoyed. The cdx only had a two pin brake light switch, yet the mv6 does have a 4 pin. So as far as I can tell I'm good to go, but it don't go! There is a voltage at the control box so can't be a fusing issue. Oh well perhaps theres a reset somewhere.

That is confusing then  :-\ :-\ :-\

Hotel 21's how to guide says you need the 4 pin brake switch which your new MV6 has  . . .

But if the CDX that you have taken the parts from , had only a 2 pin brake switch  . . how was the cruise working on that if it needs

a 4 pin brake switch  ? ??? ??? ???

Or have imissed something here ? :-\ :-\

Was the cdx a manual?

Don't the manuals use a 4pin brake switch AND the clutch switch?  Don't see how the Cruise worked on the CDX if it had the 2pin Brake Switch.... or am I being a clutz?

I asked the same question a few posts back .

Thinking we need the OP  to confirm what transmission both cars have .

Looking like one is manual & the other auto  :-\ :-\

sorry I haven't been back for a while, I now have a baby and that's taken a lot of attention. Getting back to the cars, the 2.5 cdx was an auto and definately has the 2 pin brake switch. I even took/broke it out to double check. The 3.0 mv6 auto has the 4 pin. but still doesn't work. I thought perhaps I should disconnect the battery and see if that does anything. Also are these models supposed to be as floppy as the regular cars or is the suspension naggered?

just an update. after following some other threads regarding power steering, I swapped the servotronic relay from my old cdx into the mv6 and heavy steering is fixed. Perhaps I shouldn't scrap my old car after all. Now just need to sort the floppy suspension and that darned cruise.

Cruise - Have you checked the basics, youve fitted, and plugged in properly both the stalk and the actuator?
I gather the brake switch is sorted?

Are there any bulbs out on the car?  tail?  brake?  numberplate?

you are trying it at a fast enough speed? over 18mph iirc?
