TD Codes 64 & 96, advice please Gents.
« on: 13 January 2013, 15:36:17 »

As per title really, Paper-clipped the car a couple of days ago, just the one code, 64 (Fuel Quantity Control Out of Range). This code has been there quite a while, & I never bothered doing anything about it. I now have an extra code, 96 (EGR Out Of Range). I am thinking of cleaning the EGR valve, and possibly replacing, unless anyone has any more suggestions.  ::)

Would be a good idea to inspect/clean the EGR valve Glen.

If the car's running OK; then don't worry about it! :y

Are you getting any physical problems? Fuel consumption bad? Loss of power (blocked/faulty EGR)?

I bit of diesel magic in the fuel filter may help the 64.

the 96 is nothing to worry about if there are no symptoms, although worth cleaning it in case its gone manky

Thanks lads, I will clean the EGR, fuel consumption is not good, but nice to know there is not too much to worry about. I am nearly due for a fuel filter so wil do the usual Diesel Magic trick, always do actually.  :y

might be worth working out exactly what the consumption is mate to establish whether you do actually have a problem. change fuel filter (serviceable item anyway) and clean your EGR. Then rake it from there.

i know when martin did mine i noticed a very distinct increase in performance immediately. got the feeling it had never been done  :y

Is it an auto?  The TD + GM autobox is a bad combination for economy, sadly.  Manuals achieve much, much better.

The EGR in the pic is like most, in that it has a drain tube, which mine doesn't  :'(
TB - yes it has a automatic cog-swapper, so I do realise the economy is not brilliant around town.  :-[

I refused to freeze doing my EGR today, but paper-clipped it again, the 64 code has gone, I am left with the 96. I shall get the EGR cleaned as soon as the sun comes out, fuel filter on order.
