I think that "there but for the grace of ..." go a lot of us ...  how many have come very, very close to your predicament I know one year I remembered 30 minutes before she got home from work ... she was still in a mood as I'd said nothing in the morning .....

Exactly what I did this christmas. I allotted myself 30 minutes. Ended up doing the lot in 7 minutes  Bon Jovi tickets for the wife, Bletchley Park tickets for Dad and a spa day for Momma.
5 mins in Morrisons choosing some cards.

I am fortunate that I was married on my birthday, so one less date to remember.

A few days after our daughter was born both me and the wife forgot our 3rd wedding anniversary. Fortunately, I had the moral high ground as I remembered it first at about 8pm in the evening  and quickly retrieved a bottle of Champagne from the garage. 

I said: 'you know what this is for celebrating don't you'? She replied: Natalie being born?
What is today? Reply: Tuesday with a puzzled look on her face.
What is the date? Reply: 5th August, returned with a blank expression.
What were we doing three years a go today? She has a think, I don't know?
We were getting married. Her cheeks turned a lovely cherry red.

We just had a good laugh over it and both of us put it down to us concentrating on the new arrival.

Needless to say, neither of us forgot the 4th anniversary.
