Hi all. anybody got one....the sort with glass panel front with pebbles in the front and flame effect. Looking for one about 90cms x 50cms. We are not worried on the heat output, but I think most are 1kw/2kw. Its the flame effect we are more interested in.
I have seen a few on the bay of thieves. Many below £100. And seen some in B&Q but they seemed to be the smaller one. We are looking around that price, £100 or so....are they any good
I have also been conned into taking her ladyship to Milton Keynes.....not been there for 20 years or more. Are there any shops there that would sell this type of fire  (sees a way out ) Not John Lewis....too dear, even with our staff discount. Would prefer to collect rather than trust couriers on e-bay
Or if you have bought one one the bay of thieves, any suggestions

i think i got mine from argos about £ 50...the flame effect is a bit of fabric and a small blower...looks real enough

you have it in one as we have central heating but you only feel warm sitting in front of a flickering fire

We have a 'pretend' log burner in a fire place that I built in the dining room, just for effect, never used the heat side other than to test it worked about 12 years ago.....

Thats exactly the same with us, Vamps. I have a coal effect grate in front of a fire I built years ago, now we want to come up to date. The heat side will rarely be used, Its the flame effect we are more interested in. Will get a lot of use, so....do they last, can you change the light...I'm sure I read you can't, unless that was for a specific model

I would say listen to them, the fans in some that drive the 'flicker' can be so noisy you wont bother using them, unless with the fan heater bit too, as that masks the noise.

It really makes me laugh seeing energy ratings on electric heaters. They all convert electrical energy into heat, and there's nowhere else for the heat energy to go than into the room, so how can one be more or less efficient than another?
