The day before i set out for a trip similar to tunnies, the abs, tc lights lit up briefly at slow speed, then went out.

No codes were stored.

One thousand six hundred miles later the lights are getting more regular along with no speedo reading. The old girl saved all the trouble till i got back and even started faultlessly at -15c (heated seats mmm)

The chances are its the module. Seen a picture posted which possibly showed corrosion damage.

Has anyone managed to fix/solder/ repair one or is it best to just send it off for recon?

(Even managed 30mpg overall trip fully loaded)

There was a very long discussion of this some years back .. the end result being .. if memory serves me correctly, that the wire that "breaks" and needs reconnecting to the board requires an exceedingly specialised procedure and equipment that the average electronics expert will not have.

Simple soldering is impossible for several reasons .. one of them being the gunge the board is encased in.

I had mine refurbed by BBA Reman and was extremely pleased and happy with the result. £130 including a 2 year warranty - but that was 5 years ago now so check the price !!

Yep, need to remove the gunge without damaging anything, then the wire needs welding back on, and under a microscope. Best leave it to BBA Reman or ECU_Testing, both of whom do a very quick service.

If anyone can give me info on how to remove the "gunge",I may be able to have them repaired at work,as we have bonding equipment. :-\

While Albs and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, what you can't fault him on is helpfulness, where he can. Why you feel the need to take the pee for that is beyond me, tbh. Uncalled for, its a common problem we could benefit from solving.

bba do the repair through ebay as i had to have mine done, its cheaper then using their own site and now comes with a lifetime guarentee rather then the old 2yrs one, i got tools here to remove yours if need be

If you have bondout kit then you would not need to remove the gunge (acetone is the likely solvent) as the needle bonding probes could be easily pushed through the clear goo to support the ultrasonic welding.

Its this same fault that affects the control modules on the Bosch VP injector pumps to.
