Please don't take my post as being doomladen! A flashing EML does warn of potential cat damage IF you continue running the engine with an incorrect fuel trim, however, the cars ECU will stop fuel delivery to the effected cylinder injector so it's not as bad as it sounds!

Unlike a V6 which will still run (after a fashion on 5 cylinders), a 2.2 will be such a pig to run on 3 cylinders that you won't even want to try to!

As others have said, the first thing to check is water or oil seepage into the plug wells. the 4 pot is prone to getting Waterlogged plugs due to a leaking scuttle allowing rainwater etc to run through the joints and directly below the lowest point is the Coilpack multiplug and the plastic Ecotech cover over the coilpack and plugwells, and this is where it ends up, usually in plug no.4 (nearest the windscreen)!!! Ditto for a leaking camcover gasket, this dumps oil into all four plugwells and if allowed to sit there, will gradually bugger up the coilpack rubber plug covers and cause a misfire! The good news is that either of these problems is an easy fix & do-able by you with the help of the relevant 'How to's' in the Maintenance Section of the Forum.
