Diesel Magic Trick done, now how do I start the thing?
« on: 30 January 2013, 20:06:42 »

As per the title really, did the Diesel Magic trick, and it won't start. I have flattened the battery trying, and even loosened off some injector unions. Last time I did this, it started & ran OK, slightly lumpy for a few seconds, then fine. This time it started for half a second, the cut out. I have the battery on charge, and will have another go in the morning. Any advice would be helpful.

Did you remove the filter with it's casing (as a complete unit) Glen?

... and the obvious one - how much fuel's in the tank? ;D

Hello Byron, no I took the studs out & angled the housing, then slipped it off downwards.
Plenty of fuel, nearly full.

Personally, I'd remove the complete filter unit again, then unscrew the filter from the head and make sure that it's seated correctly before re-assembling.

Make sure that the filter's full of fuel/Diesel Magic, and carefully refit to the head.
Once refitted to the car, start the engine (hopefully) without touching the throttle pedal

Fingers crossed! :y

Right, I may do just that, thanks. There is no Diesel leaking, and it seemed to screw up tight enough, and I filled it with Diesel Magic. I have tomorrow to sort it, just that last time I never had a problem.

I've come across this once on a TD; Glen ... and that's what I did.
No problems since ... so good luck! ;)

Hmm at a guess, when you removed the filter you also unscrewed the fuel heater above it, ergo now you have air getting in,take filter off again, make sure the heater is screwed up all the way, just turn it to tighten it as normal then refill and replace filter, :y

I will have a look at the heater then, never even noticed it before. Is there any pictures on here?

Omegatoy seems to be spot on! The heater has come undone, anyone know how it fits? It looks like a bayonet fitting but I can't get it to grip.

Managed to secure the heater part, but the filter itself leaks when ign is on.

The heater bit is secured by a plastic nut in the middle, which had come undone. It had dropped, and there is a large O Ring on the top of it, which must have slipped out of it's groove, so it was not in the fully up position, meaning that the filter itself would not go tight up against it's seal. I was flummoxed because I didn't even realise this heater was there! My EPC isn't working so I couldn't get a pic to help me, perhaps someone could add one for the future. Thanks to Seth & Omegatoy for their help.  :y
The filter I had "in stock" didn't fit, so am running with the old one until the dealer gets one in. (The number tallies, but the top is different???)   ???

wow my grey matter certainly still works then!! glad you got it started mate, all you needed was a shoove in the right direction, strangely enough a lot of owners do not know the heater is there but it causes a lot of scratching of heads when it isnt right!! :y
