Key lost program
« on: 01 February 2013, 19:34:37 »

My key appears to have lost it's program. Have changed the battery etc to no avail. I tried to unlock the car using the fob as usual but it didn't work. Thought it was the battery so just unlocked the car manually and the alarm started. I changed the battery but still couldn't disable the alarm or lock or unlock the car. I managed to get home with the alarm running and have disconnected the battery for the night.
Is there a quick fix for this or do I need the key reprogramming. If the latter, how do I go about this?

Starting the car should stop the alarm.

To resync the fob try key in ignition, ignition on, press fob doors should lock, press fob unlock, doors should unlock.  Fob should now be synced to car :y

This might sound strange but I was using a remote control fart machine and when I pressed the unlock button on the car key it triggered the fart machine. Could that have reprogrammed my key????:D

Had the same trouble.....could drive the car but siren sounding while driving.....next day looked at the siren back up battery inside the siren and the connections were rotten,so rather than let the car burst into flames i disconnected it.....sync key in ignition as explained earlier on here.....hey presto problem solved.. :y

When you said alarm wouldn't turn off was it the siren or horn?  If the siren remove (don't just disconnect it in situ) your powersounder urgently.  Then as  flyer 0712 suggests try the fob resync :y

The horn should go off with ignition on.  If it didn't no immediate ideas sorry

OK . .  ignoring the "flatulance generator" for the time being  ;D ;D

have you tried a spare key if you have one ? (guess you would have tried that if you have though)

If not I would also suggest as Dbug says remove your power sounder from under drivers scuttle .

Possible fire risk, so remove & leave off ( as most do on here ) or get a new one . (see disconnection/removal in maintenance guide)

Then try key re-sync .  ( did re -sync operate correctly when you did it previously  . . . doors locking & un-locking etc.? )

If you have to take the key apart again  . .  be careful of the very small imobiliser chip that sits in the horseshoe part of the key .

If it  is loose & drops out as key is pulled apart  car will not start at all. And hard to find if dropped on the floor /carpet/driveway etc.

It would also help future diagnosis if you update your details with your omega model ,year & engine

HTH       :y

Tried everything and nothing works. Have just ordered a new carpass from vauxhall and will get the keys reprogrammed on Monday. Hopefully this will do the trick  :(
