Bridges Of Madison County....

Yes, I know; it`s a 'chick-flick'......(presently I`m watching it on Ch5)

Was a great novel and is a cracking movie (Clint Eastwood & Meryl Streep)....of 'roads less traveled' and life`s 'might`ve beens'....so wonderfully sad, yet uplifting.
I have a glass of wine and a large box of hankies.  ;)

i was sort of watching it while trying to plough through piles of paperwork, :( then mrs bitz decided to listen to elvis sings syrup or something similar ,so i gave up on both. ;D

if you want a complete contrast,goodfellas has just started on sky 1.. :o.....im now watching james taylor on bbc4,i find some of his songs uplifting.its followed by hotel california,a docu,about the west coast music scene.byrds,c.s.n. neil young,joni mitchell etc; should be good,i think neil young is a god.

Aha, another one of those myths with no definate answer.

The story I got told when in that area was that the decking boards used to build them were VERY expensive so a roof was constructed from the cheapr box wood to protect them from the elements in an attempt to make them last longer.

Actually, we were told when visiting similar bridges in New England, that it was to keep snow off the roadway which would otherwise turn to ice & the horses would not be able to get a grip

Then maybe in New England (Where New Hamphire is) it's because it snows & in Iowa it's because of the price of timber???
