Delicate question.....

Do any of you in the age group mentioned, get little packages through the post from the NHS, asking you for 'poo' samples......in relatoin to bowel cancer ;)

Just want to know.....what happens if you get an unclear result. A pm would be fine if to delicate to post here.
Fully appreciate this is a 'personal' thing, and appologise to other forum members under 50, who were bloody nosey and had to have a peep ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I got an envelope with some dog poo in it. But that was from my neighbours, not the NHS.

I did a while ago. However . . I ignored it. Maybe I shouldn't have, but think about it. Just how do you do a poo into a tiny little jar thing ? Thing could get errrrrrr a bit errrr messy.  ::)

You are a silly sausage, Rog. You poo into an icing bag and pipe it into the jar. I made swirls with mine, but you can choose your own shape. :y

No I haven't.

If you get an unclear result presumably that says you might or might not have. maybe wise to have a follow up test when next due.

For anyone else feeling a bit squeamish, get over it. At least you can provide the sample in the "comforts" of your own home and potentially head off a bad situation later in life. If the Health Service thinks to ask you for samples for screening jump at the offer :y

Back to serious....

Last time I had a 'clear', this time I had an unclear, then they sent another and that was clear, and they sent yet another which is on its way back to them for testing.

If that comes back unclear.....whats next :(

I will say, that they do say in the letter, that signs of blood can be any number of things and not neccesarily cancer :y

You forgot the bit about doing it while your wife is out so you can get the piping set through the dishwasher and back into the kitchen drawer before she gets home.  :-X

I would imagine one unclear result is not anything to worry about. As said, I'm sure there can be many reasons for this and more conclusive tests would follow if there is any reason to suspect a problem. Whatever the cause, it's best to find out early. :y

My Mum died in my arms at home of Bowel Cancer in 2004 at the age of 74, and even with the excellent care of Macmillan Nurses and enough Morphine to kill the whole neighbourhood, she still had a painful, horrible death I would not wish on anyone. Bowel Cancer is on the increase in the Western World and the UK has the highest incidence of it in Europe! (probably all the horseburgers we've been eating! ;)).
I've insisted SWMBO use the kit on two occasions now and it is a simple, hygenic (plastic bag or disposable latex glove over the hand!) procedure using stiff cardboard 'sticks' to touch the stool as you pass it (both ends of the Richard, using different sticks!,so you curry monsters may need to be a bit nimble fingered ;D)
Incidentally, i'm 60 this April and have never had a kit sent to me even though the disease has occured in my family previously! ???

Well, kind of on-topic  . . . . ish

Last weekend a local butcher had pheasants at £4 each. I'd never cooked pheasant so I got one. I know about looking out for shot pellets. Cooked it, not great, but at least I've done it now.

Yesterday . . . . whats that in the bog ? actually what are those in the bog ?  ??? Yep shot pellets that are too heavy to get flushed. So the big question. Are they mine or SWMBOs ?  ;D   ;D

back in 1999 i got very ill ended in hospital,long story short i suffer from ulcirated colitus if left untreated it can kill,ihave tests every 2 to 4 years as my risk of colon cancer has gone up by about 200 % i also have blood tests if i start to feel unwell, if you get offered a test take it but be open minded its not an exzact sceince and if they think you need a follow up go for it a false alarm is better than catching it to late, ps for all you guys 50 or over go to your docs and get a blood test for prostrate cancer takes 5 min could last a lifetime if you get my drift.

No,I've never had a kit sent to me,if I recieved one I'd certainly take the test.That said the last time I had need of visiting a doctor was back in 1984!!
