Dash Boarding not lighting up :(
« on: 20 February 2013, 11:43:56 »

Morning guys, i am having an issue with my Dash board, and most of the switches lights not lighting up when i turn the cars lights on (3.2 Elite 2003). Also the Light next to the gear lever turns off when i turn the lights on. The switch i think has "blown" as well smoke came out when i turned the lights on :(. I was told by a garage that i just need to change the light switch and ill be fine, did that and well it blew too :(. I have no idea what the problem is. Also not sure if this has anything to do with the problem i having, but when i put the car in revers the fog light, lights up faintly, i changed the bulbs at the back, no longer having this problem.

Oo and i installed a Headunit, which i have been told that when i was installing it may have caught a wire, but i dont see any wires caught. So im not too sure.

If it was all ok before fitting the headlight....try disconnecting the head light bulb holder from the the headlight and then remove the bulbs from the holder... ..so that head light cant light up and see what happens then.....def sounds like live wire shorting to earth somewhere... :-\

Sorry for the triple post, but i have had a look at the loom, everything looks fine to me. Is there some Fuse or something that might have blown? and where would it be ?

Get this checked out by a professional

Fitting a head unit should not give smoke or lights to operate in the way mentioned. Replacing a relay may have glossed over the problem, but if the head unit is wired incorrectly, then trust me, this will come back to bite you later.
