« on: 02 March 2013, 03:05:19 »

Not very clear, but at least one misfire code :-\

Pop the coil packs out, and go from there, will be either oil or water in the plug wells.

If oil, then camcover gaskets and breathers, if water, the scuttle needs sealing up, as per the guide. It also helps if you remove the sponge from the scuttle, as that drip feeds the 246 coilpack :'(

Had a quick look today can't see or smell any obvious oil leaks around the rocker covers and the foam on the scuttle is bone dry . When I had the rocker cover gaskets go on my old 3.0 it was leaking onto the manifold do they tend to go round the plug wells first on the 3.2 . The fuel filter is looking rather old is there a possibility of fuel starvation causing the miss fire and hesitation ?

Would have thought that the fuel filter would show as an injector fault rather than a misfire :-\

Lifting the coilpacks for a looksee is alot easier than changing the filter :y essential to rule them out tbh, can check/change the plugs at the same time :y

Did the 2.6 loom stay on the car, or was the engine fitted with its original loom :-\

I don't know as I didn't do the conversion robsymv6 did it . I know it is a silly question but does the plenum have to come off to pull the coil packs ?

There's a knack to it drivers side easy enough, pass side, remove filler neck, aircon pipe bracket, undi vac line and cable tray. Push cable tray towards wing and should have enough wiggle room :y

right pulled the coil packs today and they are dry as a bone so none the wiser . i did take the breather box and the throttle body off and cleaned them the breather box was full of a nasty brown gunk mostly in the outer large bores i cleaned them through with carb cleaner and a hose pipe but the carb cleaner made the o rings go brittle i managed to find one that fitted the bit that goes into the plenum but it doesnt have the bit that wraps under the bottom of it . run the car and couldn't find any air leaks using a spray to see if the idle changed . so i am still none the wiser please help ?

If Rob used the 3.2 plod loom, the coilpack wiring might be past its best :-\

9 months ago the loom could be bought new for about £120, now they're over £500 :o. Wish I'd bought one then ::)

Fwiw, mine is currently running an auto engine loom :y

You need to rewire the plug for the reverse switch, as auto very different, so a couple of extra plugs for the gearbox, but rest is plug and play :y

Any loom from any 2.6 or 3.2 will be fine :y plod ones seem to go brittle, probably as a result of heatsoak from being caned ::) coilpack loom gets the worst of it as the wires are relatively light and the plugs for the coil packs sit above the manifold/downpipe join :-\
