I found this on a U.S. site, and hope it may be of some use.

There was a nice short item in this month's British Marque
Car Club News, reported by the Connecticut MG Club, taken
from Machinist's Workshop magazine, 2007, wherein someone
reported a test of 4 leading name brand penetrating oils and
a mixture of 50/50 acetone and atf.

They report that they put up a sample of ''scientifically
rusted'' nuts on bolts and tested the penetrating oils,
finding that the torque required to loosen the nuts varied
from 106 to 238 ft lbs and the cost varied from $0.21 to
$0.75 a fl oz for the brand name products and that the
acetone/ATF mix came in at 53 Ft. lbs and $0.10/fl oz.

So, next time you face rusty nuts and bolts, try acetone
mixed with ATF before you just bust off the offending part
with a bigger wrench.

Acetone is very useful substance, but I have reservations about this. I have access to plenty of acetone (use it most days) it is very useful as a degreaser in small quantities and also very useful for drying wet items. I would have thought the acetone would evaporate before it has time to do any penetrating. Maybe the ATF changes that though.

I will give it a try.  :y
