Knocking From drivers side.

Hello all. Got a knocking sound quite loud coming from drivers front side, have changed steering idler as loads of play center tie rod bush on passenger side is slightly split as well but despite all this the drivers shock has oil on springs and theres oil on inside of front wheel arch.Drop links seem fine the shock doesnt make a massive noise when you bounce it but like i said its got oil on springs. Have taken road wheel off but no play any ideas. Thanks  :)

Most common knock at the front is drop links. But could be any component with play. Is the knock in time with road bumps when the car is fairly level?

Drop links make a bad knock.
But a defective shock absorber is more likely due to the reported oil.
They're about £70 each from Allgerman and aren't difficult to do.  But it will need wheel alignment afterwards

Yep thanks peeps i guess theres only one way to find out i will take it off next week and have a look at the whole thing.I wanna put a used shock on as the cars only got so much life left in it without throwing loadsa money at things.Will a used 1998 2.0 omega shock drivers side be the same spec as whats on the standard 2001 cdx 2.2 thats only 20 quid off fleebay.lol  ;D

Shocks and springs should always be changed in pairs. You'll risk a lopsided car otherwise, and if one shock fails the other ,usually, wont be far behind.

The shock needs replacing due to list oil. Regardless if its the shock that knocking.

Drop links can be tested be wiggling the roll bar by the drop link ball joint. IF both sides of the suspension are level, either jacked or on a ramp, then any play will be obvious.

You may also want to check the wishbone bushes.
