Over the last couple of months or so I've noticed a decline in the numbers of Omegas seen running about round here[sad I know that I notice such things],but at the same time the number of Signums has increased[hardly used to see any of those,now they're getting a pretty common sight]so are people who previously owned Omegas replacing them with Signums?Or is this a new breed of Vauxhall owner?

There was no direct replacement for the Omega.

I can't say I've seen any around or maybe I don't notice them. Which was the problem for the Omega sadly.

Oh,Iknow there was no direct Omega replacement.Wasn't the Signum basically a Vectra variant?Just wondered if Signum was beckoming a kind of default setting for prior Omega owners.

The Signum was based on the Vectra C estate, which has a longer wheelbase than the hatch/saloon

It was sold as an upmarket variant of the Vectra, but suffered from the same problems as executive Renaults (WWD and hatchback do not executive make), so never really caught on.

Vauxhall missed a trick really, because had they made the Signum as a lwb saloon with a decent spec/options list, it would have kicked the Superb into touch, and perhaps made a realistic successor to the Omega

Probably seeing more because they're dirt cheap

They are certainly cheap, my 04 plate 3.0cdti owes me about 1100 quid,lot of car for that ammount

Can't complain about that, Henry. I actually quite like the look of the Signum......in a perverse ugly duckling sort of way.

I was very nearly tempted into a 2006 v6 2.8 Elite T  ,but after finding out the road tax was nearly £500 decided to think again.

As nice as it was with a full Irmscher body trim and 19 in wheels just couldnt see paying nearly £280 every 6 months just to be on the road.

Will stick with my Omega  until a nice 3.2 Elite Auto Saloon appears for sensible money

Having had a Signum for 6 years (until changing it to Insignia Tourer in Jan 2013) I would say it is most definitely not an Omega replacement in terms of comfort and drive but it was a most fuel efficient spacious car for passengers (2 in back only) but not a drivers car and a little cramped for driver as well.

The dmf on diesel manuals was a real weakness - but a sound car overall
