moved the car this morning to find a oil leak stain about  2 ft  across , i know the cam covers are ready for being sorted but can they leak this bad , i can,t smell no burning oil in the car when driving . just wondering if it can be anything else

Yes!

And I  bet your plug wells are full of oil.  No alternative but to replace cam cover gaskets and clean out breathers thoroughly.

Anything else?  Well check that oil filter is still screwed on tight and there is no obvious oil leak from the sump or engine sides.

Think i'd be inclined to have a good look around the engine bay before coming to any conclusions!

Could be a weeping oil filter for example.

RTV silicon is NOT a good idea to use for valve covers. Somebody had to install real gaskets after 1 hour of cleaning covers from RTV. It was not me, I would never do that...

Whats RTV got to do with ops post?? 

As suggested have a good nose underneath to try and source leak.
Sure its engine oil, and not power steering fluid or gearbox atf?

Because there was mention of it being used in place of CC gaskets if that was the problem

I think they use that stuff in the states judging by all the vids I've watched....great for sealing something, virtually impossible to separate two components later on without breaking/bending them 

but yeah back to the post in hand  pop a spark plug out, that'll tell ya if your cc gasket(s) gone
