The EU need to balance their books where they have overspent this year to the tune of £9.5bn. They have very generously said the UK can pay £1.2bn of this, so get your wallet out where that is £77 per family. Go on your know these people and their projects are vital for Europe, so pay up with a smile on your face knowing they will spend that money on their very generous salaries, expenses, pensions and corrupt projects much better than you ever could on your family.

That is as maybe. No one can afford to use them. The government is chipping away removing this tax break and increasing tax there. Increasing VAT. Removing lower VAT items and so on. Just like Ireland.

At the end of the day how can our elected representatives not. When they overspend and need to raise more money they just ask us for it. Please pay more VAT, Fuel duty, etc, etc, oh! and we have thought of these other taxes we would be grateful if you would pay whilst we reduce the services you receive.
By the way you have no choice because if you avoid it or fiddle it we will fine you more money and expose you as the scum of society. Also whilst we are at it thanks for the pay rise, improved expenses and pension you also had no choice in giving us.

As taxes go up the black economy grows. In Spain I'm sure if many of the unemployed weren't doing unofficial jobs they would be rioting.

Taxes or levies have been used, accepted, and enforced since the pharaohs, if not before, and are a way of raising revenue to fund war's, maintain law and order and society, but also to keep the those higher in society in their positions. "Dodging" has probably been around for just as long.

Today these taxes are levied by governments that are put there by the people and are supposed to act for the people.

The problem, as I see it, is the form, variation and high burden of taxes that exist today, that WE plebs HAVE to pay, are used by these governments without proper understanding or agreement of the majority. If this was protection money being extracted from someone by some other gang organisation it is classed as illegal.

Unfortunately since the mid 1960's taxes and the amount tax used to fund our welfare state have continued to grow substantially and still is, with the Government £6.5 billion over budget in the last 3 months.

When my dad died and we cleared the house I found some of his old pay slips from the 1950's and was shocked on how little tax he paid. We are all conditioned to the current unacceptable levels.

Countries that are doing well in the world have typically about 20% of GDP tax take, less than 40% to GDP sovereign debts and many have much better welfare systems. There are better ways of running a country and in Asia that is exactly what is happening as they have learnt from the many mistakes the Western countries have made.

We need Governments that dump the worst of what we do like our Ponzi based welfare system and start adopting what other countries do much better, instead of the political dogma based ways our politicians continue to perpetuate the problems and continually reinforce the failures with ever more money. This country with public spending at 49% of GDP is doomed to economic decline and it doesn't have to be this way. The most entrepreneurial and most skilled will continue to leave where there are better places in the world to create businesses and to work, while the rest in the UK will get poorer.

Seriously though  it was announced this week that the government are considering a system similar to the UK SORN system where any untaxed vehicle has to be notified to the authorities prior to it being taken off the road .
The only difference being that you will be charged a sum of €25 to do so.
There you are , taxed to use the vehicle and taxed not to.........

Or better still use the Spanish system. All vehicles taxed once a year by whoever owns them on a certain day. No refunds or SORN. ecept if you are scrapping the car. Then you get unused tax in multiples of 3 months back. All cars have to be insured, end of. MOT displayed on inside of windscreen.
