wiring diagram
« on: 05 April 2013, 08:16:28 »

where can i get hold of a wiring diagram for the fuse fv5 ontop of the battery to find out where it feeds. i know the fuse numbers it goes to in the car but the issue i have with a drain is not with any of them, so it must feed something else aswell.

FV5 feeds : F1, F6, F7, F10, F20, F25, F27, F35

In addition, it feeds the immobiliser and <sound of distant alarm bells> the Anti-theft ECU and power sounder!

No points for guessing which is the prime suspect out of that lot.

OK.. So, if you remove all of those fuses, do you still get current drawn through that fusible link?

How much current is drawn?

having put my amp meter in series with the earth lead. im getting 0.03 amps. with all the fuses in the fuse box taken out i still have the draw unless i remove fv5. so its nothing that runs any of those fuses. so its got to either be imobiliser or a wire between fv5 and the main fuse box under the dash? the battery is testing down to about 12.3 volts after about a week from being fully charged, and have fitted 3 new batteries.

0.03a doesnt seem that much. Is the battery being charged properly when running?

30mA probably isn't far off the mark

Yep, I'd expect double that, TBH. Current drain isn't your problem, by the sounds of it.

I have exactly the same problem.  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=112748.msg1421664#msg1421664 But mine was draining 0.2amp are you sure you are only seeing 0.03amp? That wouldn't drain your battery that fast but 0.3amp would.

I took out the power sounder but lost my clamp meter after that so don't know if it is fixed yet but I think not.    I now have a replacement clamp meter, does DC amps will run it over the wires coming out of FV5 next week any suggestions which ones to try?  To test I leave the bonnet up with a brick on the alarm button and wait 20 mins or so.

I had my ampmeter set on 10 amps and when i tried it ,it defo said 0.03 and fluctuated to 0.04 the drain must be intermittant some days i can check the batteryand its charged then few days later its down to 12.3 volts

according to an OOF post I read the battery drain should settle to 0.06 - 0.08amps on a non problem mig. That seems a little high to me (at 0.08amps  draw a 66a/h battery would be completely flat in 1 month) but anyway 0.03amp shouldn't cause the problems you are getting.  What is the drain if you disconnect the battery earth and put the meter between the car earth and neg terminal, or positive terminal and positive lead? (don't run anything heavy while doing that it will blow the fuse in your meter).  That will show the total drain.

doing that its 0.03 amps. i dont the the car for a lot of long journeys mainly round town with a longer trip say of about 60 miles at weekends. but ive never had any problems with other cars that only do short journeys.

Can you try measuring the current again, but carefully go down the current ranges on the multimeter? The 10A range might not be accurate enough to measure down at 30mA. Ideally, go down to the 100mA range, or whatever the meter has which is closest to, but above, the expected current of about 60-80mA.
