Sounds like the tension adjusting pully has gone and broken .. DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE until it is looked at by someone who knows .. the engine should NOT be making any funny noises just with a broken pulley .. the now stray belt might be jamming against something and making things very much worse .. especially if the belt ends up tangling with the timing belt.

Tension pulley/belt is peanuts compared to heads/timing etc etc if you make it worse !!

Nothing until it is looked at .. are there any OOFers near you ??

Best case .. a new pulley around £20 ish ( £25 ish with a belt as well)

Worst case a few hundred if the stray belt has caused major damage elsewhere in the cambelt/timing area .. but as the engine was running I doubt its gone that far TBH.

A lot depends on what the stray belt has done.... :(
