Hi, I have an 03 Omega 2.2 Dti.

When I first got the car I had problems with the instrument cluster, however this turned out to be a simple fuse.

However I have now discovered that the heated seats are blowing the fuses. Got into the car tonight and put the heated seat on. Turned it off after a minute or 2, and then decided to keep it on. As soon as I turned it on, the cluster went dead. I checked the fuses, and sure enough the fuse for the instrument cluster was blown (think it is fuse no. 15).

Was out later on in the car and my dad put on the passenger heated seat and there was no problems. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? Perhaps the fuses are to low (or maybe to high)?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Is there any easy to check the wiring?

I know that the pads can burn out, and cant be replaced.

I considered disconnecting the drivers heated seat and just leaving the passengers one as it doest seem to be causing any trouble (yet). Would that perhaps help the problem?

could be feed wire, over the years it rubs underneath and can short out.

Stick you head under the seat with a torch and have a good look

Had a good look and play with the seats today.., drivers heated seat doesn't work.  However, every now and again it will blow the fuse for the instrument cluster (fuse no.15) if you try turn it on. I checked under the seat to check wires, they all looked fine. Was going to check the connector, but didn't know what it was and didn't want to be to carefree in my investigation in case I disrupted an air bag or something. 

Anybody have any idea what would be causing this? surely if it was a problem with the seat connections it would blow fuse no.14? yes; no??

Yep. 99.9% certain you`ll find that the feed to the seat heater module has been chaffed resulting in shorting out on the seat frame. (Cable lives behind one of the seat motors so tricky to spot the damage)

Yep. 99.9% certain you`ll find that the feed to the seat heater module has been chaffed resulting in shorting out on the seat frame. (Cable lives behind one of the seat motors so tricky to spot the damage)

Thanks! This might be a silly question, but can chaffed wires be repaired?
