Oh and to point out, the car wasn't as he described it to you, so I'd argue over the deposit.

Suppose I could, Del. Doubt I'd get anywhere though. It says 'non-returnable' and I think they'd dig their heels in. They have taxed it at £280, but I think they'll get that back.
What I can do is transfer the deposit to another car, but I'm not rushing into anything... at my age.

They'll dig their heels in, however it's also known by trading standards that if you pull out of the deal because something isn't as described, you're entitled to your money back. If however you've just changed your mind, you can't ask for it back. Although the car isn't as described, and that played a part in your decision, hence you want your deposit back  .

Just had call back. Salesman apologised, even though he wasn't sure that he had misinformed me . My word against his, I guess. Anyways, he tried his best, bless him, but I wouldn't budge even when money started coming off the price. So they will take my deposit off any other vehicle I might be interested in. I said I'd get back to them.
