Fan on permanently
« on: 15 April 2013, 15:58:23 »

Just found out Big Blue's fan has been on most the day, now slowed to near stop as the battery has run down.

Ive played with a few relays, made no difference.

Any pointers?

Aircon was regassed a few days ago, hadnt been running before as too low on gas.

Battery disconnected now, and charging up.  didnt even have enough power left to run any live data to see if any sensors were reporting mad temps.

Seem to remember a blown fuse can cause this problem, a 30 amp big bugger fuse if i remember correctly.

Can you identify which fan(s) are running?

Also, try pulling the plug on each of the 2 thermoswitches on the nearside side of the radiator, and see if one of them stops it.

Ill be honest, I had just got up, stupidly didnt even look what fan it was, just disconnected battery to stop it and got it onto charge to investigate another day.

Give the orange relay in the triangular relay box a good sharp tap. Had exactly the same symptoms on Mrs VXL's DTi while we were in Cornwall one summer... It was the summer when the sun came out so probably about three years ago now.  ;D

And the prize goes to VXL V6 :y

Was the fan in front of the rad, drivers side..

One sharp tap on the orange relay...Silence.

I had a spare, so swapped out and battery now charging up.

Thanks all.
