Air con pressure switch override
« on: 19 April 2013, 15:33:33 »

As my aircon pump is NBG and will be replaced hopefully next month I would like to over ride the pressure switch to bring the revs up and make use of the aircon fans, Can this be done?

How and what exactly are you going to make use of the fans?

Front fans work when aircon is on (and working), rear fan works when the temperature in the radiator raises enough to trigger the switch in the radiator.

If the front fan doesn't come on, but the temp gauge in the car works as expected (needle rises towards the top oif the gauge when stationary with the engine on), then the switch on the radiator is most likely dead.

If the fan doesn't come on, and the temp gauge hovers around the lowest mark, then suspect the thermostat is stuck open.

Both cases assume that the fan fuses/relays are intact, and that the aux belt/water pump are both ok :y

I have no preblem with temperature just wanted to know how to overide the switch that senses gas is too low in aircon system and bring up the revs to 600 again.  Clutch of Compressor is fubared anyway and system is low on gas.

What engine? V6 idle is barely 500 rpm :-\

Overriding the pressure switch with a dry compressor will only make it seize destroying the aux belt. If that happens at speed consider this...

No power steering, no alternator and most importantly no water pump. If the belt goes, and you're in the outside lane of the motorway then you stand a good chance of cooking the engine before you can pull over :-\

Your car, but maybe best leaving well alone until you can get the aircon fixed :-\

Perhaps I did not make it clear. Clutch failed electrically last summer O/C coil. Plenty of gas in system so with eco off Rev =600 but no cold air as clutch was just free wheeling. Was thinking then to have the clutch replaced as someone suggested and could do the job but was never done. Then a leak must have developed and revs dropped to 500 as it should with low pressure in system. So over riding the pressure switch will not cease up aircon pump as it is permanently disengaged.
