Tech 2 auto> manual ECU Update?
« on: 21 April 2013, 13:23:28 »

So the 2.6  MV manual has been running flawlessly all year with an auto ECU and it's MOT time in June. (since all the crazy symptoms the old one had caused if you remember!)

I hear that a tell tale on the dash is a fail for MOT from this year, so is it possible to update the ecu to not look for an autobox so the spanner light is no longer illuminated?

I know I could find a manual 2.6 ECU, ring and chips eventually, but plugging it in would be a whole lot easier! unless its not a problem for MOT as I've been told!?

Ive also been wondering if the auto ECU has a slightly different map for torque etc and the box, because its been a couple down on mpg, but seemingly a bit up on power this past year.

auto ECU map is different..  and if it still thinks there must be an autobox, it fuels accordingly to the auto shift points.. :-\  I changed mine to a 3.0 manual ECU , the difference was very visible..

ps: but if it can be re-programmed via tech 2 , why not.. also you need to re-program the MID..

I didn't realise that the 2.6/3.2 vs. 2.5/3.0 ecu's were compatible (even though I know a 2.5 ECU will run a 3.0 engine fine as that's what's in the Ascona!)

I dont think 2.6/3.2 and 2.5/3.0 are compatible..  later models are drive by wire and ECUs are completely different on software..( if I understand you correctly)

but if you mean 3.0 to 2.5 compatibility or
3.2 to 2.6  yes.. :y

Sorry, teaches me to type on a phone! Yeah that's what I thought as it was the throttle calc bit of the last ecu that was screwed!

Can anyone give any clarity on the MOT issue?
