Which is the hardest side to change, the drivers side or the passenger side.

but even drivers side (UK) is not a sunday walk
 
if car have high mileage and if budget permits and if you want to keep the car, personally I would do head gaskets and manifold gaskets all at once..  because to reach both sides you have to mess with many parts on both sides and using appropriate torque in that tight area is not easy.. besides old bolts can create problem.
 
ps: use the steel sheet metal gaskets..
 
pps: if you will work in situ I hope you have small hands

this easy job took 11 hours for an experienced mechanic and me    and the coolant hose/pipe can easily leak

I did the drivers side at a leisurely pace in a day lsat year,which in truth I found quite straight forward  ..just usual loads to remove and replace.

Passenger side was a no-no as space is a real issue and I bottled out and paid local garage.  ..who said they wish they hadnt agreed to do it for me

I have had both sides done seperately and than head gasket change
 
so next time, I will change head gaskets again but wont do them seperately..

Christ I don't know how Pete! My hands looked like they had been strimmed after I did mine, mangled threads on the manifold to downpipe didn't help though

As already said above.  Drivers side should be 3-4 hour job.

Passenger side is more restricted.

Don't touch the head gasket unless necessary.  I mean, why would you?

Why not go the whole hog and take the lump out to give easier access,be quicker cem.....

you know I'm a programmer.. when a pc goes tits up, I remove all cards and then add one by one..
 
I apply the same rule for engines.. and I hate to do the same things over and over again..
 
trust me I wish I had them all done at a time..
