Looking at a Omega 2.2 , what if anything should i be looking out for ? Never had a 2.2 and its an auto so the right number of pedals for me

It's a miggy so it's the usual things cam belt, cam covers, etc,etc. I'm sure people who know better than me will be along to tell you more and of course, as is par, that there are two cylinders missing  but I know better 

My experience would point me at the head gasket as desmonds seem to be more prone. Usually OK if the antifreeze has been kept good though.

The Auto box is another as the 3rd gear solenoid can go. Also when was the fluid and filter changed.

Similar checks as the V6. Suspension, engine leaks, smooth transmission, ALL warning lights illuminate & extinguish. Notwithstanding the cambelt & waterpump change, check the quality of the coolant. On the 4-pot poor coolant history = HG failure. Test drive to check diff, prop, steering vagueness, brake judder etc

exhaust manifolds prone to crack between no2 and 3 cylinders, other than that just the usual bits and pieces that crop up, mines done upwards of 170k just needs a service and decent tyres !

Arrh good point there cnj id totally forgot about that ... are those manifolds easily available ? Thats good mileage

manifolds are not overly common for good used ones, have seen them on a Vauxhall spares site for about 130 new, don't know the quality mind, could try andy c  for the price of genuine or try car parts connexions for a long look !!

incidently the pedal trick doesn't work so some form of code scanner would be needed to check for codes both current and expired !

4 pots love fresh oil, can really notice when it's been changed. As Rob says coolant service is key, my 2.2 is 162k & original HG, fatherTs 2.2 HG failed at 90k (dealer serviced until we bought it)

DIY service work is so, so much easier. Cam cover is a lovely little job as is stat change, I just find life much much easier doing standard jobs.

Easily cruise at 80mph all day long, just takes a little longer to get there than V6

Yep its a lot easier to change those , am i thinking its similar set up to the vectra B engine

Engine other way around compared to Vectra, everything is easily reachable
