A question for the 2 REAL Tech II owners. Have either of you ever tried to 'correct' the milage of an electronic display odometer ie Astra G? Not for fraudulent reasons obviously but just to see if you can! ;) If you plug a 'Cheapo Tech II' into the diagnostic port & go to BODY you can get the displayed milage up on the lap-top, & it gives you an opton to 'correct' it. I tried with my Astra G .... by a couple of miles both down & up ..... but it wouldn't do anything more.  ;)  :y

slight thread drift .. but when I bought the new beast the seller (Mr Budden) actually offered to allow me to use his system to check this info ...  I didn't know about this site until then.

Now I would "demand" the info needed to check before entering any deal with any seller .. :)

my facelift is on 109k now, you could set it to 55k and your average buyer would think its genuine!
Facelift more difficult to wind back, as interior trim normally shows wear...

Plenty of cheap tools to allow 'mileage correction' on digital odo cars.

AFAIK, real tech2 does NOT allow it.

thanx Richie. Just checked mine with the site you told us. Mine seems a bit dodgy too. :(.  According to the records mine only did 430 miles between Mot's between 2006 and 2007, at the same garage as well. Maybe true but a bit fancyful i think. According to the service history i got with the car it had £1200 spent on it last July. I had credit card receipts and garage bills ( not the same one which MOT'd it ) and rang them up to confirm. All seemed above board so i took the plunge. Maybe that's why so much was spent on it last year. Got through MOT last week with no advisorys.

Clocking cars is a lot more common than you would think and the guys that do this profesionally have tens of thousands of pounds worth of equipment to do this on any car you give them i personally know of a gentleman who does this for a living and spends an awfull lot of money doing so but also earns a lot of money doing it.

The one thing which suprised me though was his customers the majority of there cars where bentlys, porsches, rolls royce, ferrari, lambos, and even a 3 month old audi R8 being put back to new again!!!!

His famous words to me where the car you would never think has been done most proberly has. And always always always more than anything buy a car on condition not mileage.

Sorry to hear about your bad news Richie and I hope you can get some satisfaction out of any investigation that is carried out.

As for the site you quote it is indeed a very useful one to know. I have just checked my car and thank goodness all is in order! :y

I saw all the paper work for mine.

I also used to know someone who bought a second hand car and the seller he bought it from always clocked cars back to zero :o :o

Richie, sorry to hear your new bud, I'm sue that once you've sorted your problems, if you haven't already, the mileage won't actually matter in the end it is the condition that counts.

Great site and is now a firm bookmark for the future. I'm glad to say my car checks out. It seemed to have a private plate from new until jsut before I bought it.

What worries me more than anything with this clocking going on is the risk to cam-belt failure if buyers don't realise that it, and otehr servicing, is overdue.

Mine is over-due for a cam-belt change BTW :'( I'm just trying to find someone to help me out and hold my hand for my 1st attempt.)

if you have the tools and dvd its not hard,a tip i would pass on to a cambelt newbie is if you can lay your hands on a portable dvd player, you can watch a section and then do the work ,then watch the next section etc;it makes the job less intimidating the first time you do it . :y
